Overview of Change Modes
Before creating a change request, you should consider what kind of request you want to create. Depending on the nature of your request, you may want to prioritize or omit certain information based on how relevant it is to the request. With Change Modes, you can choose which form to use for your change request by specifying the type of request you are submitting.
Note: Only staff users can select a Change Mode. End users must use the default Change Mode set by the ChangeGear administrator.
Each Change Mode corresponds to a different Request for Change (RFC) form in the Change module. When you create a new RFC, ChangeGear displays a prompt asking you to select one of the available Change Modes.
Selecting a Change Mode closes the prompt and opens a new ticket using the form associated with that Change Mode. This prompt appears when a user performs the following actions:
-
Creating an RFC from the Change module
-
Creating an RFC from the Service Catalog Portal
-
Creating a template from the Template Manager
ChangeGear includes three Change Modes by default:
-
ITIL uses the ITIL framework to support traditional change processing with CAB approval.
-
DevOps is tailored to agile and continuous delivery development methods.
-
Business provides a general form for control processes unrelated to IT.
Note: The list of Change Modes may vary depending on your ChangeGear configuration. If you are not sure which Change Mode to use, refer to your Change Manager.
