Overview of the Service Portfolio

The Service Portfolio module helps you manage service offerings across the service life cycle, from initial service planning through operations and eventually service retirement. Services can be anything from basic IT services like requesting a new monitor, to business or facilities requests, such as maintenance or training requests.

Use these steps to design and organize service items in your Service Portfolio and then publish service items in the Service Catalog:

  1. Design the services

  2. Organize services by assigning them to categories

  3. Review and approve services

  4. Publish services to the Service Catalog

Design the Services

Define what constitutes a service that is provided to the organization, and record the information associated with a service item. Using input from other business units, design the services offered to customers and ensure all the business needs are met. Service design should include information about who can request the service and what resources the service uses.

Organize the Content of the Service Catalog

You can organize the content of your service catalog and consider how to present the service items to your customers. You can group the service items intofunctional categoriesand add those categories to the Service Catalog.

Review and approve services

When the service has been designed, it must be approved and made operational. Often these decisions are made by the business service owners who were involved in the service planning and design phases.

Publish Services to the Service Catalog

Operational services must be published for your customers to see them in the Service Catalog. Prior to publishing services, it is a good idea to do a final review of the user access settings for the service item.
