Analyzing the Impact of Modifying Dates on Change Windows and Blackout Periods
Modifying an enabled Change Window or Blackout Period associated with active Change Tickets may cause impacts to compliance policies. If the Start or End date of a specific Change Window /Blackout Period is changed, active Change Tickets may fall out of or into the Change Window /Blackout Period making them invalid for planned date enforcement.
- For Change Windows, the Analysis feature identifies any Change Tickets that are now excluded from a Change Window because of a change in dates (i.e., both the Start and End Dates of the Change Ticket are now outside the Window).
- For Blackout Periods, the Analysis feature identifies any Change Tickets that are now included in Blackout Period because of a change in dates (i.e., Start and/or End Date of the Change Ticket is now inside the Blackout Period).
Note: Although a Change Ticket may appear in the list of “Impacted tickets”, the impact may or may not require intervention.
For example, Change Windows if either the Change Ticket Start or End Date is still within the modified Change Window, the Change Ticket is not impacted (i.e., both dates must fall outside the modified dates for a Change Ticket to be impacted). However, Change Tickets that have Start or End date that fall within the Blackout Period may require adjustment to the Blackout Period or to the Change Ticket to maintain compliance (e.g., make sure that no service level agreement or policy is invalidated).
When you make a Change Window or Blackout Period, if any associated Change Tickets are affected the Impacted tickets due to date change(s) indicator and View button appear.
